No Huddle

Why don't teams ditch the huddle more often?  I'd love to see stats on if teams out-perform their normal yardage or points average while back-yarding it.  Football is all about keeping the defense off balance and it seems like the best way to keep this off balance:
...might be to hurry it up

  1. Bri--This is one time I have to disagree with you. Football should not be about using substitution tactics to keep the defense on their heels. How wimpy can you get? I'd prefer a game that keeps the defense on it's heels by clever play-calling, exploiting your strengths/opponents weaknesses, and winning the many one-on-one battles that make up each play. Do you want to celebrate a victory by saying, "we kicked their butts because we timed our substitutions way better than they did," or "that last 'two-many men of the field' penalty was a game-changer." I don't think so. Dud

  3. Hurry-up offense as a "substitution tactic"? that's a stretch. It changes the pace of the game and forces the defense to make a few extra decisions. Further, is it "wimpy" when a basketball team races up court to try and score a few quick points instead of waiting for the defense to get set? The plodding method of Wisconsin is not the only way to play...
