Greatest College Team Ever....Yup.

The Fab Five.  The most exciting college team ever assembled.

Chris Webber (#1 prospect)
Juwan Howard (#3 prospect)
Jalen Rose (#6 prospect)
Jimmy King (#9 prospect)
Ray Jackson (#84 prospect)

The Fab Five documentary is airing on ESPN this sunday and will be amazing.  As everyone knows, the Fab Five never won the NCAA championship but they did play in two title games, losing to Duke and North Carolina.  Chris Webber chose not be interviewed in the Jalen Rose-produced (yeah, that's right) documentary.  Unfortunately he's best known for "The time-out", but he was a unique and dominant player for two years and maybe people should be talking about his most recent take down of the Heat:

WOW!!

  1. Greatest team ever???????? I'll pretend that you misspoke. Not only were they not the greatest team ever, they werent even the greatest team in 1992 and 1993. Thats because Duke was better in 1992 and UNC was better in 1993. Also they werent even the best team in their own conference those two years. Ohio State won the big ten in 1992 and Indiana won it in 1993. Greatest ever assembled? Hard to say since they never won ANYTHING!! Maybe we should call them the overrated Five if they were so highly thought of out of high school. But oh yeah they did wear baggy shorts and black shoes so lets put em in the hall of fame. Please the hype for this team was so ridiculous and over the top. There are without a doubt over 20 teams thru the years that so put this team to shame. The point of sports is to win something. this team did not do that and therefore can never, ever be considered one of the greatest teams of all time. Not even in the conversation. I'm ready for the next podcast Jacover!!!

  2. haha...I thought this post would warrant a comment. A few things. First, to say the Fab Five was just "a team with baggy shorts and black shoes" is ridiculous. Did they're trend-setting style add to their greatness and legacy? Of course. But they also happened to play in two straight championship games. They're one of four teams to do that in the last 20 years. Second, sure, UNC beat them in '93, but if they played 10 times Michigan wins 9. I watch basketball with my eyes. Just because a team wins doesn't mean they're necessarily better. Third, they were freshman. In 2011 this may not mean as much, but in 1991 this was essentially unheard of. I'm not sure what it means that they never (well, in the 2 yrs they were together) won the Big Ten yet played in two championship games. I think that's pretty remarkable. To say they didn't accomplish anything is also ridiculous. Would you rather win the Big Ten regular season and flame out early in the tournament? Is that better? I guess we'll just have to wait for the ESPN documentary on the 1993 Indiana team to find out....

Mind you, in 1991 and 1992 I was in my paint-chip induced Notre Dame phase.

    Podcast coming...
